Transferring files when using the PS Vita has become essential since modding the PS Vita became popular, bringing a lot of power and customization to the user community.
Today, I will introduce ways to transfer files from your PS Vita to your PC or from your PC to your PS Vita.
Transferring files using an SD Card Reader
One of the simplest and most common methods to transfer files between your PS Vita and PC is by using an SD Card Reader. You just need to remove the memory card from your PS Vita and connect it to your computer via an SD Card Reader.
Once connected, you can easily copy and move files between your device and PC.
This method is quick and convenient, especially when you need to transfer a large amount of data.

Transferring files using a USB Cable
Another simple method to transfer files between your PS Vita and PC is by using a USB cable. By connecting your PS Vita to your computer through a USB cable, you can easily transfer files between the two devices.
This method is useful when you don't have an SD Card Reader or want to directly manage files on your PS Vita without removing the memory card.
Guideline
- Connect the USB cable to your computer and PS Vita.
- Open VitaShell on your PS Vita, then press the Start button. Set the USB device to sd2vita and the SELECT button to USB. After that, press O/X to return to VitaShell.
- Press Select to start connecting to the PC when a window appears: USB Connected.

Transferring files using FTP - using FileZilla FTP Client
A more advanced method for transferring files between your PS Vita and PC is through FTP using the FileZilla FTP Client. This method allows you to transfer files wirelessly, which can be very convenient. To do this, you’ll need to have an FTP server set up on your PS Vita, usually done through an application like VitaShell.
Guideline
Once you have your PS Vita connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC, open the FTP server on your PS Vita and note the IP address it provides. Then, follow these steps:
- Open VitaShell, press Start to change the connection method to FTP by pointing to the line SELECT button: FTP. Then press X/O to return to VitaShell.
- Press Select to start connecting via FTP, a small window will appear with your IP address in the format Host (192.168.x.x). Make a note of it.
- Open FileZilla on your PC, then enter the noted Host and Port into the empty fields, leaving the Username and Password fields blank.
- Your files on the PS Vita will then be displayed, and you can easily transfer files back and forth between your PC and PS Vita.
